Pat The Great Cat
Our unlikely “hero” is Pat the Cat, a down-on-his-luck jaguar who, as his forest home is diminishing, makes a decision with consequences when he starts killing cattle instead of his traditional prey. Caught in a trap, he ends up at a sanctuary for “problem” cats in Belize, Central America. Having lost his canine teeth, he could not be returned to the wild. Pat needed a home, and caring people reached out to him. In a journey that took years, Pat found a new life. After a tough start, he has become a world-renown ambassador for jaguars in the wild.
The heart-breaking, and heartwarming, story of Pat the (Great) Cat is the thread that ties together important lessons with new vibrancy. The children of Belize and the children of Milwaukee take us on an educational journey that celebrates their “shared citizen”, and each other. Together, as co-authors of SHARP’s newest publication, the children join hands across nations and share with the world the lessons they have learned about all that is the story of the jaguar, the last Great Cat of the Americas.
