Three – Five – Oh!

August 10th, 2010 — 11:44am

Awesome speech in Copenhagen back in December from Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed. He has stated that his country will  be the first carbon-neutral country in the world. We need more world leaders to stand up and demand a system change, if for no other reason than simply to have the “moral clarity of our cause” as our motivation to bring clean air, water and soil back to everyone.

EnVision Releases Electric (Lady)Wagon(Land)

May 17th, 2010 — 12:14pm

This is a true story. This past Saturday, as I was listening to the Gulf disaster unfold, I decided that enough is enough. I simply can’t be a willing participant in the dumb petroleum game. “I need an electric station wagon. Where is my electric station wagon? Who hasn’t thought of this yet?” After 5 minutes online, I found it. The future is here, thanks to EnVision Motor Company.

The Electric Wagon (do you guys need a branding consultant, by the way?) sports a nickel sodium chloride battery and has a range of 200 + miles and speeds of 75 MPH +. This is exactly what I was looking for. At $37,000, it’s a little steep for me, but the maintenance & fuel savings seems to make up for the price differential after 6-10 years or so. Oh, and it qualifies for the full $7,500 Federal tax credit.

Nice work, EnVision!

The Goodbyn

May 7th, 2010 — 11:58am

Finally, something my kid can take to school that is cool, healthy, and made regionally. Goodbyn is a company in Washington that set out to reinvent the lunchbox, and has done so in a smashing way. Manufactured in Michigan, it is a product of the good ol’ U.S. of A., without the phthalates and BPAs. It encourages parents to fill it with wholesome, good stuff, and it looks like a million bucks. I’m ordering one. Photo and product ©byndoo, llc.

We Will Triumph in Time, Grasshopper

April 20th, 2010 — 11:23am

Check out the Grasshopper, a great-looking electric bicycle designed by David Gonçalves. More pics of his project can be seen here. Excellent work.

Also, check out the latest Worldchanging article concerning the status of the electric bike in North America. Enlightening, informative, and entertaining. That’s why I like Worldchanging so much.

Free Parking?

March 31st, 2010 — 4:32pm

There is a great article at Worldchanging concerning “free” parking and the enormous costs and inefficiencies of the current state of urban and suburban planning.

Kerry-Boxer Bill to Create Surplus

February 28th, 2010 — 7:55pm

I found out in December that the CBO cost estimate of the Kerry-Boxer Energy Bill will create a 21 billion dollar SURPLUS through the year 2019. You can see the report of S. 1733 – Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act here. This is a re-post from my former blog.

Greener Milwaukee

February 25th, 2010 — 10:44am

For some time I have been thinking about how Milwaukee needs an ecologically-minded site that covers local issues, news, and provides resources for people, as well as a social networking forum. Greener Milwaukee is a social networking site created by Ryan Thompson, which provides a space for green-minded individuals to network while providing updates on the green scene, and lists upcoming eco-events that will interest many greenies here. May your site flourish like guerrilla rain gardens, Ryan.

Lunchskins

February 23rd, 2010 — 8:25am

Every day 20 million plastic bags end up in our landfills – and that’s just from school lunches! Faced with this insane statistic, three responsible and inventive moms formed 3greenmoms, superheroes of our environment. Back in December I purchased a couple of LunchSkins for my son’s lunch, and after two months of use I can say that they are a superb product and a simple, yet revolutionary solution to our waste problems.

Not only am I buying more LunchSkins, I am telling every school parent I know about them. Maybe I can get the school involved in selling these as a fundraiser?? Raise funds for school, save the environment? Maybe the first baggie-free school in America? Hmmm.
